Not Me! Monday

Not me! Monday... I'm back. At least for this Monday. :)

I have not just been lazy and haven't posted Not me Monday's for a a few Monday's.

I did not pop a zit on my hubby's back and it most certainly did not squirt on my face! EW! No way. That is just gross. Not me!

I did not scream when I pulled the mail out of the box and a spider fell on my husband leg and it started crawling away. Nope, not me!

I did not finally give in and join Facebook. Not me! Not more computer time daily. Nope.

I did not plan on eliminating dairy from my diet to see it would help with Jacob's spitting up, but just can't seem to give it up. Not me. I will do anything/everything for my baby.

Belated 3 Months

Jacob hit the 3 month mark last Sunday the 22nd. Better late than never! Here is what is going on with our little guy:

• Weighing in around 12 1/2 pounds (my best guess weighing him and me, minus me)*
• Measuring around 23 inches long (my measure on the changing table)*
• Almost out of 0-3 month clothes and almost into 3-6mo sizes
• Still sleeping like a champ, 8-10 hours at night and usually naps 3 x day for 1-3 hours
• Smiling and cooing
• Has rolled over 4 x from front to back but we have yet to catch it on video
• Can hold his head neutral when pulled to a sit and then likes to pop up to a stand
• Still loves his turtle mobile
• Likes watching TV
• Nursing 5-6 times per day
• Has lost all the hair on the top of his head, half the hair on the sides of his head, and has a bald spot in the back
• Is spitting up A LOT
• Can't wait for the holidays
• Wishes he could eat turkey dinner and pumpkin pie

* Next week at our TEDDY appointment we will get an accurate weight/length measure

TEDDY Study

I just got Jacob signed up for the TEDDY (The Environmental Determinants of Diabetes in the Young) Study.

In the hospital, when Jacob was born, they took some blood for research and tested Jacob for a genetic marker for type 1 diabetes. Turns out that he has that genetic marker. That doesn't mean he is going to get diabetes, it just means that his risk is increased. Out of 100 babies with the genetic marker, 3 babies get diabetes.

So we decided to enter Jacob into the study which is following kids with the genetic marker who are at increased risk for developing diabetes to try and find out what triggers type 1 diabetes.

Our first visit is December 3rd.

Movember

Did you know that the month of November was originally called Movember and the name was changed later?

Just kidding!

Actually November is the month for moustaches! That's right. Movember is an annual, month-long celebration of the moustache, highlighting men's health issues - specifically prostate and testicular cancer. Go to here for more details.
